Stop and Smell the Roses

Sometimes I need a reminder to slow down and take a deep breath in.

I started this art journal spread out with lots of layers of acrylic paint and white gesso.

I decided to experiment with a new idea I had. I traced my own handmade stencil onto the journal page. and then  painted over the stencil lines with Regular Gel medium. The idea behind this was to add in some thin lines of texture.

After the layer was dry I painted the flowers. I placed my hand cut stencil back over the roses to add in the shading and highlights. I also tried to go over just the raised textured areas with some darker red and some white paint.  I am not totally convinced that I like the texture of the Gel Medium, but I think it was worth a try.

Over at the Mirror Crack'd the challenge is to make and use a masterboard. I created my masterboard by cutting strips of gelli printed deli paper and book pages. I then adhered those strips to a piece of copy paper.

Next I cut out my vase shape from the masterboard. I used a few flower and border stamps to add some extra interest to the vase.

I also used pieces of my masterboard to adhere my quote to.

Using my handmade stencil I added in some more roses with black acrylic paint. And lastly I added in the saying with some painted letters.

I hope you enjoyed my art journal spread and I hope you take some time to stop and smell the roses :) As always thanks for stopping by!
