Is Spring ever going to get here?

It is a winter wonderland here today. Yesterday I was out for a walk without a jacket on, today it is snowing and blowing. I decided to add a bit of Spring in with an Art Journal page. Over at Effy Wild's site she is having a Spring quote challenge and I decided it was the perfect quote for today.

My initial plan was to do a simple collage. I started out gluing down some torn spring-like papers. I then went over them with come clear and white gesso.

Next I pulled out some stamps and stamped with black archival ink in random places. The stamps i used are form Stampendous and Tim Holtz. I then added some more white Gesso.

The background was really not coming together for me. It just needed more. So I added in some Spring color Gelatos. Still not enough. Next I used some embossing paste through a Tim Holtz stencil. Getting better, but still needed something. So I pulled out some Stampendous Shabby White embossing enamel to add a bit more texture and some shimmer. Finally happy with it. The picture really does not give the full affect of all of the texture.

Next step was to add in my spring birds. I printed out images from the Graphic Fairy, cut them out, and then glued them down to my page.

As you can see the birds are kind of floating on the page. I used some brown acrylic paint to add in tree branches. I also went over the birds with some acrylic paint pens and some Gelatos and added a few more highlights to the tree.

Last step was to add in the Spring Quote. I printed it out on patterned paper and then went over it with the Gelatos so it blended into the page a bit better.

I am submitting this to the Stampendous Mixed Media Challenge, as this art journal spread really turned into a mixed media project. Thank you very much for stopping by and I hope this puts you in a Spring mood.

  1. Wonderful journal page! All the paper scraps create a great texture and design for those sweet birds.

  2. Great journal project! Love your spring birds and wonderful colors! Like how you kept building your layers until you were happy with it, that's what mixed media is all about. Thanks for joining our challenge!
