Layer it on

This weeks challenge over at the Frilly and Funkie blog is Layer it On and share a Word. I saw this saying at the vets office a few weeks ago and just loved it. I knew I had to do something with this as a tribute to the little fur balls that we have lost recently. This challenge has motivated me to get the idea out of my head and onto canvas.

I used white acrylic paint mixed with Iced Spruce Distress re-inker for the first layer.

I then added some dictionary paper here and there. I inked the paper with Iced Spruce and Black Soot Distress ink before adhering it to the canvas.

Next step was the heart. I wanted the heart to pop up a bit so I decided to used Modeling Paste colored with Victorian Velvet Distress re-inker. I used a chipboard template that I made and spread the modeling paste around it.

I wanted the paw prints to go across the entire canvas and through the heart. I had to make my paw print stamp out of black foam as I did not have one. This was a bot tricky, but I was happy with how it came out.

I used Black Archival ink to stamp the paw prints across the canvas and into the wet modeling paste.

After this was all dry I added the words with white letter stickers I had on hand. I adhered them to black cardstock and then cut them out and inked the edges with a White Paint Dabber. I also went over some of the raised areas in the heart with a lighter mix of white acrylic paint and Victorian Velvet Distress re-inker.

The final layer was a vintage piece of lace and the word I really wanted to pop off was Heart. I used Grunge board letters that I covered in dictionary paper and inked with Victorian Velvet Distress Stain.

As always thank you for stopping by and I hope you found some inspiration in my post.

  1. What a lovely tribute. So sorry for your loss. We just lost our feather baby so I might tweak this idea to make a tribute to her.
