Summer is a great time to travel and my husband and I have a few trips planned. I decided to host a Summer Travel Chunky book swap for the All Things Tim Group I belong to. I thought this was a great idea and a wonderful way to document some of our trips. I am making the cover and back cover for the book. I just finished up the design for the front cover.
I apparently am still fascinated with old vintage photos for some reason. I came across these two photos on Tammy Tutterow's blog. Tammy is nice enough to share many Vintage images for free. Her blog is a must see. I added a bit of color to the photos using Distress Markers.
The background is an out-dated map that I inked up using the new Summer Salty Ocean Distress Ink. I added some Vintage Photo Distress Ink to the edges and scuffed them up a bit too. I also stamped using a few of the Tim Holtz's Mixed Media stamps and a white Paint dabber. Lastly a piece of tissue tape was added in the upper right hand corner.
I added a piece of torn corrugated cardboard for some added texture. I used Gesso and the new Summer Picked Raspberry Distress Ink to add some color to the cardboard and highlight the raised texture. I then added a piece of twine with a charm attached to it. I plan to punch out paper for Tim Holtz's Destinations pack for the charms. I really love the filmstrip ribbon and decided to attach it so it pops up a bit.
Depending on how thick the book becomes I may use an elastic band with Tim Holtz's Hitch Fasteners for the closure. My plan for the binding is to use wooden rulers and wing nuts. I am in the process of collecting the rulers form flea markets and dollar stores, which is why the left hand side is of the cover is blank.. Here is an example of what the binding will look like.
I am going to submit this for the June monthly challenge, Create a Little Sunshine, over at Inspiration Emporium. So thank you for taking a peek. Please stop back soon as I will have the inside of the cover and the back cover to show you as well. Happy Summer and Happy travels!
