Oops not keeping up with my Journal

So I had great expectations when I created my Art Journal. I was going to use it at least once a week - 52 pages in the journal for 52 weeks in the year. Well I am way behind as other "stuff" has kept me from the journal. So today I was bound and determined to complete a page.

I chose to try the challenge at A Year in the Life of an Art Journal. The challenge is to sketch a self portrait of yourself then print it onto your book page background. I started out with a book page like background. I used the Tim Holtz tissue wrap and glued it onto watercolor paper.
Next I sprayed the background with Dylusions Sprays , added lots of background stamps from the Mixed Media Stamp set by Tim Holtz and stamps by Dylusions, added some gesso and paint through stencils, and then more spray.
I cannot draw underline the not. So the self portrait was a big stretch for me You were to also pick any character you would like to be from any of your favorite books. So here is my theory behind this page. As I said I really cannot draw so I used a stamp from Dylusions to stamp the body and I drew my head. I colored the image in with Distress Markers. This really looks nothing like me, except maybe the hair color, but I stepped a bit outside of my comfort and tried. I must say I kind of like being me, but if I could choose I would love to fly - I know this is not a specific character more of a characteristic. So I added some wings to my self portrait. I cut the wings out using the Tim Holtz Heart Wings Die, inked them with alcohol ink and added some stickles for a bit of sparkle.
Last step was the cute little houses I am flying over and the stamped saying. The houses are from Dylusions stamp set Right Up your Street and are again colored with Distress Markers. I really thought the saying kind of went with how I feel. I just really like being me and my life is filled with so many wonderful people. I am living the Life I have Imagined!
Thank you for stopping by. I hope you can take some time to do something you have been wanting to do today.

  3. This is excellent and loved the simplicity of it. Journals are really a vehicle for angst, a reason you may have not tried to keep it up. The way you have used the journal is great.
