The great Outdoors

It has been too nice to stay inside here in Northeast Ohio. I spent yesterday evening outside taking pictures of all of our plants and flowers. The texture and colors are really wonderful this time of year. I woke up this morning inspired to create an art journal page based on these pictures.

The background is made up of many layers. The first layer is a page out of an old American Landscape book.

I wanted to add a second layer, but did not want to cover up all of the writing from the first layer. So for the second layer I stamped onto tissue paper using Black Archival ink and stamps from Tim Holtz and Dyan Reaveley. I then adhered this over the first layer

Next I sprayed several colors of Dylusions Ink and added some extra color by stamping with Paint Dabbers and Tim Holtz Bitty Grunge stamp set.

The last step for the background was inspired by A Year in the Life of an Art Journal challenge to use gesso on a page. I cut my own stencil out using plain white cardstock and the Tim Holtz on the edge Twigs die. I wanted brown gesso so I mixed the transparent gesso with Walnut Distress Stain.

I was now ready to add the pictures I had taken the night before. I printed small 2"x2" pictures out and then punched and die cut out the flowers. So the flowers are actually pictures of flowers from our yard. I then added the tree, the saying, and adhered all of the flowers on.

I am also entering this into the Simon Says Stamp and Show a Kaleidoscope of color challenge. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a chance to enjoy the great outdoors where ever you are!
